TAKING HER OUT FOR A SPIN

The sun was out this afternoon and it was nice enough to try out the bike.. Violet is still figuring out the whole breaking thing and she keeps looking down at her feet instead of looking forward. She feels like one of the big kids now.

¡FELIZ CUMPLEAƱOS!

An all Dora birthday party.

Chris spent 2 1/2 hours decorating the cake while I cooked and set everything up.

Look at all my presents.

Hey, we match!

A BIG girl Dora bike.

Chris bought trick candles that kept relighting. Violet thought these were funny.

SAY WHAT? WEDNESDAYS

Last night I mentioned to Violet how we need to work on her past and present tenses as well as what in the past, present and future means. I need to start correcting her. For anything that has happened in the past Violet says 'last night'. It could have happened 2 weeks ago, 2 days ago, or 2 hours ago, her response is always 'last night'. So after I said "past and present tense" last night, knowing she had no idea what I was saying, she looked at me and said, "Pass out presents". I think somebody has birthday on the brain.

A FRESH COAT

I spent all day Saturday and Sunday on a ladder painting. I managed to get the living room and kitchen all painted. I took these pics with my phone last night. The downstairs area is the last area in the entire house that still had the yucky builders grade flat paint. We've avoided it because of having to paint the foyer area which is two stories high. We're still trying to figure out how we're going to do this. We'd rather not have to rent scaffolding. We chose the same yellow ochre color but it's so much brighter and cleaner looking. The old yellow actually looks greenish and dirty (you can see it in the photo). From the foyer into part of the kitchen we'll be adding a chair rail and molding and painting white below it. This is why that 36" area is left unpainted.
It's nice to have painted walls we can actually wipe with a wet rag without paint rubbing off.
I'll be painting the hallway upstairs next before we tackle the foyer.

BABY DOLL BED REDUX

This is the last thing I made for Violet's birthday. I bought this bed frame last summer at out neighborhood garage sale for $2.00. It was white with and ugly canopy and curtains. I painted it black and made a new canopy and decided not to add the curtains. I had some left over foam and cut a piece for a mattress, covered it with fleece and made a sheet. I made the pillows and quilts last winter, and now they have a home.

I made a trundle bed that slides under the bed. Perfect for Violet's other baby's.

VALENTINE'S TREAT

So we decided on Yogurt tonight instead of cupcakes. The new cupcake place doesn't open until Feb 17. So tried the other new self serve yogurt place called Yorgurtini. Yes, Lee's Summit has two yogurt places that are virtually identical. We'll see witch one lasts.

Lucky us they had a Valentine's Day special. Buy 2 get one free, plus one is half off. All I know is it cost us a whole $2.85. Score again. The girl at the register said she's pretty sure the computer system is messed up and taking half off every order plus giving out the buy 2 get one free.

Here's Violet wanting hers and mine.

♥ ♥ VALENTINE'S DAY ♥ ♥

Violet opened up her Valentine's day gifts from us and Grandma F yesterday. Last weekend she got money and M&M's from Grandma Y.

A cute 101 Dalmation's with hearts sweatshirt.

Oooo... fuzzy.

Yeah ponies. This set was at Target over the xmas holiday for $29.99. It was marked down to $9.99. Score!

Playing with my pony house. Up until now she's only had one lonely pony and some plastic horses that she's played with in the stable. I'm searching ebay for the accessories that go with it. Most are all missing except the bed. I think I can snag them for pretty cheap.

Tonight we may go get ice cream or cupcakes.

A LITTLE UPDATING

Since getting new counter tops this past summer I've wanted to repaint the island. I was tired of looking at a giant white box for five years. Time for a change.

I bought some moulding and added it to the front. A bit more dimension and not so flat looking anymore.

I could have left it white, but...

...decided to paint it a gray that goes well with the stainless steel appliances. This pic doesn't show the right color.

This pic is more true to the color.

Now we're all jazzed about starting some other painting projects we've been putting off. Probably because I love the smell of new paint. Mmmmm....paint fumes. Next up is repainting the entire first floor. It still has the original builders grade paint. We'll be repainting the same color but in a satin finish. We'll also be adding a chair rail.

ICE CEAM! ICE CEAM!

We went out for pizza the other night. The kids pizza comes with a gelato. Violet loves any and all kinds of ice cream. This time around she got swiss chocolate. She will lick that container clean. She calls it "drinking the milk". That's what she calls melted ice cream.

NEW OBSESSION

Violet got small set of Legos at xmas. Now we've added Chris's Star Wars legos to the group. She likes the people with helmets. She actually passed up watching Dora to play with the legos.
