B-2 BOMBER
Whiteman Airforce Base
One of our neighbors works at Whiteman Airforce base and got us onto the base to see the B2-bomber up close. So close we got to get in the cockpit. Many people don't get that opportunity. In fact they are getting ready to rework the interiors of these planes and no outside people will be allowed in them.
It took two weeks to get clearance for all of us . Background checks were needed before we could go. We also needed two forms of ID before seeing the plane.
Security is very tight into the area where the planes are held. Lots of barbed wire, monitored fences and signs that say deadly force may be used. We got clearance to take photos but I was still nervous about taking pics. Last thing I wanted was to have my camera confiscated.
The base holds about 20 planes. Each has their own hanger.
I was able to invite John and Izzy along.
Pictures of the cockpit were not allowed. The space inside the plane is very small. Only enough room for 2 people. We were told that they will hold 24hr missions in the air. This requires fueling in mid air. I can't imagine sitting in that small space for that long.
